Abstract

Bosya recounts a legend about the origin of Tsagan Sar. This is her story: People make various bortsg varieties for Tsagan Sar, including a round-shaped bortsg resembling the sun, a bortsg in the shape of a camel, etc. In the beginning, it is important to make an offering to gods. Afterwards people go out to see their relatives. According to tradition, brides have to visit their relatives during Tsagan Sar. It happened many years ago. 2 gods were fighting with each other. When they both got tired, the goddess Green Tara descended from the sky to reconcile them. When the goddess visited the first human house, she saw inside some people drinking morning tea. ‘Did you survive the winter successfully?’ she enquired to the head of the household. Since then people have been celebrating Tsagan Sar.
