Abstract

Baira says the following: Professor A. Sh. Kichikov classifies ‘72 fables’ as myths. Another famous Kalmyk folklorist, M. E. Dzhimgirov, sees them as fairy tales about animals, because ’72 fables’ often narrate about animals and insects. In general, this is a special genre of Kalmyk folklore, which is difficult to classify. Edyge Tursunov, who studied Turkic folklore similar to Kalmyk ‘72 fables’ also believes that this genre should be classified as myths, because they tell us about the afterlife.
