Maria recounts a fairy tale about an orphan boy and sings ‘a song of the orphan’: Once upon a time lived an orphan boy who looked after a flock of sheep that belonged to a wealthy man. One day, while tending the flock, the orphan meets a snake that asks him three questions: ‘In this world, what is the most valuable thing? The most beautiful? and the loveliest? No matter how much he tried, he could not come up with the correct answers. Taking pity on the boy, a gopher decides to help him out: ‘The most valuable thing in the world is a human life’, ‘the most beautiful thing is the sun and the moon’, and ‘the loveliest thing is a child to their parents’. Happy with the answers, the snake give the orphan the ability to understand the languages of all animals. One day, the orphan notices a young lamb at the end of the flock. The lamb complains that it has to carry on its shoulders the happiness of the entire flock and that is why it falls behind all the sheep. The boy asks his employer to give him the lamb, which he agrees to. As the boy approached to grab the lamb, a dog jumps at it and runs away with the happiness. The orphan changes his mind and tells the wealthy man that he now wants the dog instead. As he approached to grab the dog, it licks a pot sticking the happiness to its wall. The message is that people should earn their happiness themselves and not try to steal it from others.
