Abstract

Tatyana says that in the past, Kalmyks announced the birth of babies loudly so that everybody around could hear the good news. Children have their first haircut at 1. It is the child’s maternal uncle who cuts the first lock. Parents whose children died went to the temple to have a ‘fire ritual’ performed. Families that had several boys used to send at least one boy to the temple for monastic education.
