HTML- success and limitations

Simple, human-readable and authorable, easily learnt

Transmits text and graphics

Forgiving of errors;

Makes hypermedia (links) accessible to millions

Inspires 'memes' (spontaneous self-reproducing ideas)

Unsuited for machine2machine communication

Hyperlinks break easily and cannot be maintained

Tagset and syntax not extensible

Confusion of content and style/formatting
