These data form the basis of the following pair of publications, both of which are open access. The papers contain all the experimental details and interpretation of the results: Designing steel to resist hydrogen embrittlement: Part 1 - trapping capacity T. I. Ramjaun, S. W. Ooi, R. Morana and H. K. D. H. Bhadeshia Materials Science and Technology 34 (2018) https://doi.org/10.1080/02670836.2018.1475919 Designing steel to resist hydrogen embrittlement: Part 2 - precipitate characterisation S. W. Ooi, T. I. Ramjaun, C. Hulme-Smith, R. Morana, M. Drakopoulos and H. K. D. H. Bhadeshia Materials Science and Technology 34 (2018) https://doi.org/10.1080/02670836.2018.1496536 The steel designed in this research is designated "HT10". It is able to resist hydrogen embrittlement for under-sea applications. FILE FORMATS ------------ bmp, jpg, tif, dm3 - image files which can be opened with any standard image opening program such as a web browser. rtf, emi, ser - text file showing chemical composition analysis using energy dispersive X-rays - can be opened with any text editing program. pptx - Powerpoint slides, can be opened also with software such as Google Slides. xlsx - Excel files, can be opened also with software such as Numbers or Google docs. ods - office documents that can be opened with OpenOffice. doc - Microsoft document rtf - document file, can be opened with any text editor mcw - kinetic calculations file which can be opened using commercial software "MATCALC" https://www.matcalc-engineering.com/index.php/ THE FILES --------- Folder "TEM" - contains the results of transmission electron microscopy carried out using the Osiris and CM30 microscopes. Some of the images indicate microanalysis chemical composition via mapping, with the element concerned identified in the image-name. Also contains slide presentations summarising the results. Folder "11.TEM" - transmission electron micrographs. Folder "Hardness" - contains Vicker's hardness data in the form of spreadsheets. Folder "Optical" - Optical microscopy images, and scanning electron microscope images of fracture surfaces of Charpy impact samples. Folder "Photo" - Macro photographs of steel samples, taken using a camera. Folder "SEM EDX on segregation A11" - contains scanning electron micrographs and microanalytical data connected with chemical segregation bands in the cast and fabricated alloy There is a variety of individual files in the main folder, conssiting of spreadsheets with mechanical testing data, kinetic calculations, heat treatments, grain size determinations.
