README file for Sewell (2018) Research data supporting Where do they come from? The educational background of people working in scholarly communication.

This dataset is made up of a number of files representing individual datasets. All data was collected in October 2016 via an online SurveyMonkey survey. All files were created in July 2018. Information which could identify participants in the project has been redacted.

The files are as follows:

RAW_Survey.pdf This file contains the original survey as distributed to study participants.

RAW_Length_Role_Established.csv This file shows how long the respondents role has been established in their workplace (Question 3)

RAW_Wider_Org This file shows how many people work in respondents wider organisation (Question 4)

RAW_PG_LIS_Qual.csv This file shows how many respondents had or were currently working towards a postgraduate library and information science qualification (Question 8)

RAW_Length_PG_LIS_Qual.csv This file shows how long respondents have held their postgraduate library and information sciences qualification (Question9)

RAW_PG_LIS_Qual_Suitability.csv This file demonstrates whether respondents with a postgraduate library and information sciences qualification felt that it prepared them for working in a scholarly communication role (Question 12)

RAW_PG_LIS_Qual_Suitability_Comments.csv Accompanying RAW_PG_LIS_Qual_Suitability this file shows qualitative responses to the question of whether those with a postgraduate library and information sciences qualification felt that this had prepared them for working in a scholarly communication role (Question 13)

RAW_Other_LIS_Qual.csv This file shows how many respondents had or were currently working towards a library and information science qualification at a level other than postgraduate (Question 14)

RAW_Length_Other_LIS_Qual.csv This file shows how long respondents had held their qualifications at a level other than postgraduate (Question 15)

RAW_Other_LIS_Qual_Suitability.csv This file demonstrates whether respondents with a library and information sciences qualification at a level other than postgraduate felt that it prepared them for working in a scholarly communication role (Question 18)

RAW_Other_LIS_Qual_Suitability_Comments.csv Accompanying RAW_Other_LIS_Qual_Suitability this file shows qualitative responses to the question of whether those with a postgraduate library and information sciences qualification felt that this had prepared them for working in a scholarly communication role (Question 19)

RAW_Other_PG_Qual.csv This file shows how many respondents had or were currently working towards a postgraduate qualification in a non-library and information sciences subject (Question 20)

RAW_Other_PG_Qual_Suitability.csv This file demonstrates whether respondents with a postgraduate non-library and information science qualification felt that it prepared them for working in a scholarly communication role (Question 21)

RAW_Length_LIS-Sector.csv This file shows how long respondents have worked in the library and information sector (Question 24)

RAW_Other_Roles.csv This file shows the number and range of previous roles held by those in scholarly communication roles (Question 25)

RAW_Developing_Skills.csv This file shows how respondents developed a range of scholarly communication skills (Question 27)

RAW_Top-Skills.csv This file shows the top five skills respondents felt were important to their current and future work in scholarly communication roles (Question28)
