SPARC Europe launches survey of Open Science policy and patterns of rewards and incentives used by European research funders

The survey has been sent to more than 200 international funding bodies, national funding agencies, major charities and foundations, national academies and key research performing organisations. Its aim is to shed light on Open Science policy, and on rewards and incentives practices used by Europe's research funders to encourage openness to the research they fund. SPARC Europe hopes to increase policy development amongst funders in Europe, in order to support the more rapid implementation of Open Science.

Qeios aims to help scientists reach a consensus on scholarly definitions

Qeios, a new free Open Science publishing platform, has recently gone live with more than 800 registered researchers.

The platform aims to help scientists to reach a consensus on scholarly definitions, and the team behind Qeios would like to start with defining Open Science terms.

Open Science gurus are invited to kick-start the discussion with the first definitions of Open Science, Open Access, and related terminology.

Lunch and learn: ASAPbio presents a lunchtime discusion on preprints and transparent publishing

26 April, 12:30-1.30pm, Newman Library, Postdoc Centre @ Biomedical Campus

Join Naomi Penfold of ASAPbio for an hour of relaxed, small group discussions on how and why publishing is changing to become more transparent, and what this means for you.

Bring your lunch and join a 'discussion table' to explore questions such as...

  • why change academic publishing?
  • who and what is transparency good for?
  • what should we not change?
  • what are preprints and why bother?
  • where does peer review fit in?

ASAPbio is a scientist-driven non-profit ensuring the voices of science and the scientist are represented in innovation to improve transparency in life science communication.

This event is open to all, although will be of particular relevance to those in biomedical and life sciences.
