Description
209 x 136 mm. A view showing a group of over fifty men, women and children surrounding a large whale-shaped object approximately twenty to twenty-five feet in length. The object appears to be a boat covered in a tarpaulin, with a 'mouth' at one end, a 'tail' at the other and two propeller-like objects on the side, possibly representing fins. The 'whale' also has a number of ornately decorated objects mounted along its top. With the exception of a few people dressed in European-style clothing, the majority of those pictured only appear to be wearing cloths around their waists. Although the photograph appears to have been taken at some form of ceremony, no further information is available as to its exact nature. Photograph taken circa 1900.

The current recommendation prototype on the Apollo Repository will be turned off on 03 February 2023. Although the pilot has been fruitful for both parties, the service provider IKVA is focusing on horizon scanning products and so the recommender service can no longer be supported. We recognise the importance of recommender services in supporting research discovery and are evaluating offerings from other service providers.
