Abstract

Ekaterina was born in 1955 in the village of Chistyunka in Altaisky krai, Siberia. Her father’s name is Lidzhi-Garya Dordzhiev and her mother’s is Andzha Basangova. Her mother was a clairvoyant and could see the future in her dreams. Today Ekaterina works in Moscow. Before that she worked as a teacher in a secondary school in Kalmykia. From her father-in-law she learnt about how to behave properly in a traditional family, how to perform rituals and respect men. Ekaterina also talks about traditional weddings, including that of her son. She says what she thinks about Kalmyk culture, how the young do not speak their native language and do not know rituals.
