Abstract

Lama Dordzhi-Tseren says that Tsongkapa was the most respected lama among the Kalmyks. During his time many Kalmyks studied in Tibetan monasteries that belonged to different schools of Buddhism. Every Kalmyk lama wanted to bring the best teaching to Kalmykia, although many were not allowed to return home. Many talented Kalmyks were made abbots of their monasteries in Tibet. Lama Dordzhi-Tseren says that Buddhist teachings are wide and even the school of Gelug has internal differences.
