Abstract

Narma says that a week after birth (when the baby’s umbilical cord dries out), the parents made a celebration. At the age of 1 the parents took the baby with them to pay a visit to their older relatives who were supposed to give the baby livestock as present. Babies used nappies made from the lower part of women’s dress. If the child did not start walking, the parents did the following ritual. Someone threw a hat so that it rolled and touched the child.
