Abstract

Svetlana talks about traditional upbringing: I grew up in a traditional family. My grandmother taught me how to respect older people and treat my relatives. She would compare men with precious jewels. A woman should not cross a man’s way, interrupt him, or argue with him. Women should respect men and offer them the first portion of food. People should also honor their father’s line, while remembering their mother’s relatives as well. People should keep secrets within families, and not spread them outside. From childhood we were taught not to steal, kill, lie and so on. People should be content with what they have. Besides oral transmission, a lot of good advice have been transmitted from our ancestors via books and written material.
