Petr says that his generation had a Communist education, and rode horses instead of driving private cars. People were happy as long as they had something to eat. Although people lived poorly, they were valued by the state which gave them medals. Petr himself has medals and letters of gratitude for building the Astrakhan-Kizlyar railway. People of his generation dedicated everything to work.
