Yefrosinya says that after each childbirth she used to take her baby to show to hers and her husband’s relatives who uttered well-wishes and gifted the baby with clothes, money and other gifts. She also reminisces that in 1941 her family moved from Elista to Bashanta where they witnessed the German occupation of the town. The Germans killed Communists. Later her mother learnt that their whole family was on the German list of people to be shot, because their father was a Communist.
