Abstract

Dordzhi says the following: Since aristocrats were believed to have been of divine origin, ordinary people did not use their real names when talking about them. There is a place called ‘the burial place of Balvatan Khan’. In fact, Balvatan was not his real name. His real name was Donduk Ombo Khan. Names ending with ‘tan’ such as Balvatan or Jigiten were supposed to be treated with respect. Another example. Prince Gumbo-Dorji was called Gyungyuten.
