Abstract

Maria recounts what she heard from her parents regarding evil spirits. There are spirits called ‘dogam’ which have long hair covering their whole bodies. People who meet a dogam cannot reach the place where they set out to go. If you meet a dogam spirit, it is better to turn round and go back where you came from. Maria also says that her father used to say that only infants are pure and innocent. Grown-up people commit all kinds of sin, knowingly and unknowingly, all the time, for example by eating meat. Hence the importance of prayers to repent one’s sins.
