Narma's paternal uncle was a monk known as Sokhr Pyurveev (Blind Pyurveev) because he cured blind people. In 1940 he cured a blind man from the clan of Chonos. The same year the monk was arrested and taken personally to see Stalin. At that time, someone in the Party hierarchy had his leg broken and it was decided that the monk should cure him. After he cured the guy, Sokhr Pyurveev was given a paper saying that he can practice medicine. He was offered to head the Iki-Burul Temple, which he declined. When the Germans occupied Kalmykia, Sokhr Pyurveev predicted that it would not last long. During the war he tried to emigrate to Europe, but was wounded and drowned when crossing the Don River.
