Description
The scene is set in an apothecary's shop: the potions on the shelves are labelled according to their desired effetcs (humility, obedience, patience, intelligence, etc.). A quack doctor is giving a potion of 'Wisdom' to a patient who defecates his 'follies' in the form of little fools. An assistant places another patient's head inside a burning oven, evaporating his foolish thoughts in the form of a large cloud containing images representing his vices and fantasies (Grillen).
