Description
Frontal decoration of a chest with the representation of the seven Liberal Arts, accompanied by other figures representing the most relevant figure of each discipline, all crowned with laurels by angels. Astronomy presides over the composition bearing the celestial sphere, with Ptolemy sitting at his feet reading a volume. To his right, Geometry, holding a square and a compass, walking hand in hand Euclid. Then arithmetic, carrying a calculation table, is accompanied by Pythagoras. Music with an organ followed by its inventor, Tubalcaín. To the left of Astronomy, Rhetoric appears with the scroll next to Cicero, which holds one of his writings, followed by the Dialectic, bearing the olive branch, as a symbol of harmony between Arts, and the scorpion whose pincers represent the opposing positions of the dialectical thought, accompanied by Aristotle, and the Grammar, preceded by two children, and accompanied by Donato or Prisciano.
