This work should have been a school exercise carried out during the first stage of the foundation of the Royal Academy of San Carlos in New Spain. The affirmation is based not only on the color, the neutral background and the importance given to the anatomical position, but because the role of Iconology in the teaching is well known. Ripa's Iconologia had a renewal through French academies which influenced New Spain by that time. On the back of this painting a note indicated that it was founded in the Curato of Mellado (Guanajuato).
