Description
This is one from the series "Pictorum Aliquot Celebrium Praecipuae Germaniae Inferioris Effigies" of seventy-two etchings showing famous painters; engraved by Hendrik Hondius I, Simon Frisius, Robert de Baudous and Andries Stock. They were first published in 1610 by Hendrik Hondius. They were organised in three parts. This plate is from Part II of the series. It is a portrait of Christian van den Queborn, half-length, directed to the left, head slightly turned to face the viewer, wearing a cloak and a ruff, holding a rolled-up piece of paper in his left hand, a tree in right background and a town with landscape in far left background. Titled and lettered with four lines of Latin verse below the portrait: 'Rura, lacus, silvas, ... fingit at ingenium.' and lettered with production details in lower margin; 'Hh ex. Cum privil. Etching.
