Description
A depiction of Daedalus' and Icarus's flight. Icarus is about to fall into the sea because he ignored Daedalus' advice to fly mid-air and not too close to the sun. The drama is witnessed by a variety of characters (women and soldiers) at the bottom of the composition. The myth of Daedalus and Icarus, both ingenious craftsmen or artisans, was often evoked in relation to ingenium in the early modern period.
