Abstract

This paper presents a methodology for evaluating the impact of interior layout on indoor environment quality in low-income tenement unit of Mumbai. A variety of design layouts using partition wall and furniture position were generated for optimising design layout that could provide optimum environment quality in terms of air velocity, associated temperature and, pollutant concentration. This study followed a “Sampling based Parametric Modelling- CFD Simulation- Multi objective Optimization” framework to predict the optimum design layout. The final design delivered indoor air velocity of 0.58m/sec when outdoor wind velocity was as low as 0.9m/sec in nat-vent condition. The intention of this study is to develop a methodology for optimising interior layout design in a bid to offer ideas to address the current incongruity and poor synergy between architectural design and technological analysis.
