Abstract
Recent archaeological fieldwork at Interamna Lirenas (Southern Lazio, Italy) has produced two new epigraphic texts: a conical sundial inscribed with the name of a plebeian tribune, and a large block of stone bearing the name of the freedman Anoptes, a likely member of the family of the Sulpicii Galbae. Furthermore, a closer reading of a 19th c. document has made it possible to confirm earlier hypotheses about the interpretation of an additional inscription (CIL X 5332), whose text was hitherto known only partially. These texts have the potential to provide important information about a key period in the town’s history, that is the time between the late Republic and the early Empire, when Interamna Lirenas – supposedly – began its long decline.
