Abstract

Erdni was born in the village of Yashkul in 1959. After secondary school, in 1977 he went to study Kalmyk at Kalmyk State University. From 1982 to 1985, he worked as a teacher in a secondary school in the village of Tsagan-Nuur. In 1985 he became editor of the literary magazine Teegin Girl (Light in the Steppe). Poets and writers who published in his magazine include David Kugultinov, Yegor Budzhalov, Alexei Badmaev, Andrei Dzhimbiev, Morkhadzhi Narmaev, Bosya Sangadzhieva, Aksyon Suseyev, and Alexei Balakaev.Erdni published his first poems in the magazine Teegin Gerel when he was a student. He was influenced by such writers as Anatoly Kichikov, Yegor Budzhalov and David Kugultinov.Erdni’s first book, entitled Narta Ger (The House with the Sunlight), was published by the Kalmyk Book Publishing House in 1986, and his second book, entitled Mini Havr (My Spring), was published in 1989.
