Description

The aim of this study was to establish, for the first time using a representative sample of the UKCI, the UKCI’s understanding of a multiskilled role and reasons as to why the role has not yet been implemented yet. This was to help understand the multiskilled role problem space, the key issues found and what will need to be addressed or researched further.

The first three research questions (RQ) were based on key words identified in the literature review on multiskilling (task, skill and training) with the fourth RQ relating to barriers on multiskilled role implementation.

A Delphi"Ranking Style" method was used with 4 rounds of questionnaires asking the same research questions to an assimilated panel (cross section representative sample of the UK Construction Industry). The panel comprised business leaders, business strategists, operational and construction managers from a range of construction projects and disciplines within the top 5 UK main contractors, CITB’s lead for future skills and innovation and the author of the Farmer Report: Modernise or Die. Academic panel members were also included to ensure academic influence and opinion were represented.

Delphi Rounds Round 1 assimilated panellists responses, unified terminology & categorised responses. (draft lists of responses) Round 2 - Verification and validation of panellists responses and feedback. (Final list of responses) Round 3 - Reduce responses by panellists selection (Reduced list of responses) Round 4 - Panellists Rank and Score top 10 responses (Top 10 list of responses) Final Ranked responses and Consensus Graph Data also provided.
