Description

These data relate to the figures within the associated manuscript. Data are provided for the four alloys studied, with varying Al:Nb ratio across the alloy series. These data include scanning electron microscopy images (.tiff files) obtained from the four alloys after two different thermal exposures, in addition to X-ray diffraction data (.txt files). Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy data is included as a .oip file, which can be opened using the proprietary Oxford Instruments AZtec software. The associated data necessary for AZtec to read this file is contained in the corresponding .dat files. The normalised mass gain data used to produce the discontinuous mass gain graphs are also provided in the form of a spreadsheet (.xlsx file).

Software / Usage instructions

The EDX data can be viewed using any of the Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis AZtec EDX software packages. The EDX working environment relating to a particular sample is generated using the proprietary .oip (OXFORD INSTRUMENTS PARAMETER) file, which also require the corresponding zipped data.zip files to be extracted, and opened alongside the .oip file in the same directory in order to reproduce the data in full. There are currently no suitable non-proprietary alternatives to this software. Micrographs as .tif (TIFF) files can be opened using any conventional image viewer. X-ray diffraction data in .txt (TEXT) file format, can be opened with any notepad or text reader. Spreadsheet in .xlsx format can be opened using Microsoft Excel, or converted for viewing in any standard spreadsheet software.
