Herdsman Jankechu

Abstract

Jankechu, a master herdsman in Hejing, was born in 1944 in Bayangbulag. When Jankechu was a child, his father bought 7 yaks, which have now reached 100 heads. Jankechu’s 2 sons each owns 400 sheep and they have divided those yaks between them.In the video, Jankechu says that when he was young, he and his peers were very good at taming yaks. He usually tamed 3 yaks in a year which he used to transport their yurt between farms. However, today, people seldom herd their animals and as a consequence, Jankechu complains, the traditional culture is slowly disappearing.
