Abstract
For medieval Irish scholars, written history was Christian history, an account of past deeds of relevance to the present, framed within an overarching linear and universal (and so Christian) view of time. Their notion of historical thought was shaped by intense engagement with the Bible, prompting both moral and allegorical interpretations of events, as well as the construction of typological connections between 'then' and 'now'.
