Abstract
This video depicts Baijav’s traditional treatment for concussion which he administers to two local individuals, a youth and an adult. The treatment process is as follows: Firstly, a small hole is dug in the ground, and a handmade rope is used to make a circle around the hole. The patient lies down, aligning their head with the hole and the rope circle. Baijav then takes one of his grinder stones and strikes the ground above the patient’s head three times, causing vibrations in both the ground and the patient's head. Next, he places a wooden board at the sole of the patient’s foot and strikes it three times with his stone. This process is repeated three times before tightly binding the patient with a bandage. Through this treatment, patients often recover within seven days, although it may take up to twenty-one days for more serious cases. In mild cases of concussion, patients may initially be able to converse normally but may soon become dizzy and gradually lose awareness. Severe concussion can lead to cerebral haemorrhage if the patient is forcefully restrained. Therefore, it is essential not to provoke or anger a patient suffering from concussion. Baijav also advises patients to sleep as much as possible and emphasizes the importance of allowing them to wake up naturally. As Baijav explains in the video, herders in Hobogsair predominantly use large animals such as horses, camels, or motorcycles in their daily activities. Consequently, falls are a common cause of concussion, with the number of incidents rising rapidly due to individuals riding motorcycles after consuming alcohol.
