Abstract

This video explores the historical journey of the Öölds in Ili, encompassing the history of monasteries, banners, place names, and contemporary changes. Historically, the Öölds constructed four Buddhist monasteries, with two located in Ghulja city and the others in Tekes, Ulaan Khüree, and Mongol Khüree. Notably, Mongol Khüree later evolved into an independent banner named after the monastery. Today, Mongol Khüree comprises three banners, each distinguished by its own flag and associated with the cult of Galdan Boshugtu Khan – Har Sülde. Two of the Ili monasteries were destroyed during the conflict between Amarsana and the Jungar Khanate, assisted by Kazakh troops. Today, only ruins remain visible at one of these sites. Additionally, Törmonkh provides explanations for the names of various places in the Ili region, including Ühürch, Ghulja, Ili, Ilin Shar Khödee, Khöngus, Tekhs, and Chabchaal.
