Abstract

Dugur is a 68-year-old experienced herder in the Yisun Tolgoi pasture in Hobogsair. In this video, Dugur demonstrates and explains the entire process of making his own chewing tobacco by grinding tobacco leaves and mixing them with ashes of ephedra he collected from the mountain. He uses this technique to provide himself with sufficient tobacco, which he chews briefly before spitting out. However, Dugur complains that the strong tobacco has caused him to lose most of his teeth. Despite the government banning tobacco cultivation nationwide, elders like Dugur often secretly cultivate and buy tobacco from each other at high prices and process it themselves.
