Abstract

Subsun explained the significance of the water deity in her ancestral pastures, sheds light on a song dedicated to Shalivan Gegen, and offers insights into the Jasagain Khüree Monastery in Hobogsair. Regarding the water deity, Subsun explains, “My parents migrated seasonally between the pastures of Shar Huruun and the Öödom Dava. Nowadays, people are returning to their ancestral pastures and building Oboos to worship the deities of those territories. One of my daughters married into the Horchin Mongol community in Inner Mongolia and experienced severe leg pain. When she consulted a local shaman, he identified that her ancestral deity had accompanied her and advised her to have lamas recite ‘Altan Gerel’ to alleviate her pain. Subsequently, she summoned two lamas from Hobogsair to Inner Mongolia to perform the ritual and successfully got rid of the pain. The shaman also emphasised the importance of worshipping Oboos in our pastures. Regrettably, despite some of my cousins suffering from various severe accidents, they still fail to take this matter seriously. The younger generations are reluctant to heed the call.
