Abstract

This book approaches the popular yet fuzzy concept of “hybrid consumers” and “hybrid organizations” from different perspectives and disciplines. Based on a careful search for the scientific and intellectual roots of what it means to “be hybrid,” the author, a renowned German consumer theory and policy scholar, aims to understand the concept’s meaning and asks about the consequences for consumer theory, policy, and law. Building on prior work in the field (e.g., Gabriel & Lang, 2015; Hellmannm 2018; Piorkowsky, 2018; SVRV, 2016), the author presents five consumer types and evaluates their respective “hybrid” elements. Let us start by looking at what is hybrid about consumers and consumption.
