From Sir John Mennes, Recreation for ingenious head-peeces, or, A pleasant grove for their wits to walk in, (London, 1654). Iconography of death and time. Inscription reads: Marmora Maonii vincunt monumenta libelli;/Vivitur ingenio, cetra mortis erunt. The Muses works stone-Monuments outlast;/'Tis wit keeps life, all else Death will down cast.
