Abstract

In this video, Ujalaan Nimger elucidated the history of the stone that bears the fourteen distinct iron brand shapes used by the fourteen Sum Torghuts to brand their horses. According to his account, the stone holds considerable significance for the Torghuts in Hobogsair due to its designation as the border marker between the Torghuts in Hobogsair and the Kazaks of the Altai league, resolving a longstanding pastureland dispute between them. Erected in 1919 during an Oboo ritual attended by both Kazakhs and Torghuts, the stone symbolised a mutual agreement not to graze across the border henceforth.
