Abstract

This report documents the outcomes of the West Hub–funded event “Where is the Human in the Data? Bridging STEM and AHSS Hearts & Minds”, held on 6 February 2025 at the University of Cambridge. Organised by the Science, Technology and Society Cambridge Network (SCaN), the event aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between STEM and Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (AHSS) researchers. Through a unique format combining expert panels, a funding workshop, and a playful “research matchmaking” speed-dating session, the event brought together 60 participants and 14 speakers, resulting in five collaborative proposals. A follow-up workshop, “SHAPE in STEM – Crafting the Future”, deepened discussions on impact, equity, and institutional support for interdisciplinary work. The report highlights key lessons on teamwork, accessibility, and session design, and advocates for sustained support structures to nurture cross-disciplinary partnerships. The initiative demonstrates the potential of creative, inclusive formats to catalyse meaningful academic collaboration and community building.
