Abstract

Togtan heard from her mother that when a baby is born two ‘shulm’ spirits sit at the entrance to the door. One gives the baby life, and the second measures the baby’s life. In the past midwives cut the umbilical cord and put a coin into it. Later the coin was put in the baby’s cradle. The baby receives its name from the oldest person on the family.
