Sensing a Norwegian Forest

Abstract

This Smart Forests Atlas Story recounts a participatory workshop and walk exploring smart forest technologies in Bergen, Norway, examining how various digital tools, from satellite imagery to localised sensing practices, mediate our understanding and management of forests as dynamic ‘environmental media’. Through discussions and hands-on engagement with different forest sensing toolkits, the participants investigated the discrepancies between remote data and on-the-ground realities, while also considering more-than-human forms of sensing and intelligence in shaping future forest worlds.
