Traditional Femu Bone Setting: Healing Challenges and Practices in Hobogsair

Abstract

This video delves into the process of settling a femur bone in Hobogsair. Hövjei, an 84-year-old male, sustained a fracture to the upper ball of his femur. However, despite seeking treatment at advanced hospitals in Urumch, the provincial city of Xinjiang, Hövjei was not treated due to his high blood pressure, fatigue, and advanced age. Consequently, he returned home and turned to a local bone setter, Baijav, for assistance. Although Baijav managed to realign the displaced bone and bind it, however, Hövjei had inadvertently shifted the set bone and after more than eighty days of bed rest, the healing process had progressed slightly out of position. Baijav elucidated that while Hövjei could cautiously sit in a wheelchair and venture outdoors for brief periods to enjoy fresh air, prolonged excursions were not advisable. Therefore, he should stay in bed for one more month. In the past, Baijav’s father, Betei, had successfully settled Hövjei’s tibia. Now, it’s Baijav’s turn to treat his bone.
