Oleg Kalykov, about Maani bagshi

Change log

Abstract

Oleg talks about Maani bagshi: Maani bagshi from the Baga-Chnos temple was well known across Kalmykia. Having served in various positions, he became abbot of his temple. During the anti-religious campaign, all monks in Kalmykia were arrested. But after curing the child of the commandant of the prison where he was, Maani bagshi was released. He is also known to have predicted the deportation of the Kalmyk people. He knew that he himself would die before that. He was buried in a sitting position inside a wooden box. In the 1990s his relatives built a stupa on his burial place.
