Small engraving illustrating the famous motto extracted from the ancient collection of poems, Elegies to Maecenas: 'Vivitur ingenio, caetera mortis erunt' (One lives by ingenium, the rest belongs to death). It depicts a scholar accompanied by death in the form of a skeletton who is playing with wordly goods.
