Abstract

Vera says that she learnt about various traditional signs and omens from childhood. It is a bad omen to do the following: to whistle indoors, to sing in one’s bed, to laugh without reason. Traditionally, food was divided into ‘those for males’ and ‘those for females’. If a girl ate too much onion, people said that she would have big breast. Children were also taught not to scratch the ground or point at the sky with their fingers.
