Abstract

Subsun is a Torghut elder whose speciality is tailoring Torghut robes. Her handmade robes have traversed the country for decades, often worn by cultural representatives of Hobogsair who competed in dress competitions and brought home accolades. Recently, Subsun’s dress earned top honours at the traditional dress competition in Subei County, Gansu Province, securing a ¥10,000 prize. In this video, Subsun also recounted a local government-sponsored voyage to Hainan City alongside 26 young Oirat Mongolian cultural heritage groups from Xinjiang. During their 10-day sojourn in Hainan City, Subsun and her companions visited eight sites, ranging from communist landmarks to cutting-edge technological marvels and natural vistas. Reflecting on her experience, Subsun expressed astonishment at encountering the modernity of China, having spent her entire life amidst the pastures of Hobogsair.
