Abstract

Research from has shown that how AI is depicted can reinforce societal biases. Images of AI can perpetuate negative gender and racial stereotypes about the creators, users, and beneficiaries of AI; and misdirect attention from the potential harms implicit in the real-life applications of the technology. Thus, this project aimed to increase the visible diversity of the images used to represent people using and designing AI, especially related to teaching and learning. This project set out to work with artists to create accurate, responsibly-produced, compelling and commercially useful, stock images of AI that show a diversity of people linked to AI.
