Abstract

In this video, Dorji sang two historical Urtiin Duu Songs. Tsewang Rabdan was the Hong Taij of the Jungar Khanate, and he made an ally with the Torghut Khanate in the Volga region by marrying Seterjav, daughter of the Torghut Khan, Ayuk. Shunu was the son of Tsewang Rabdan. However, when Shunu had grown up, Tsewang Rabdan’s other son from another wife became the main rival for the inheritance of their father. Hence, Shunu escaped from the Jungar Khanate to the Volga region. This song, Narin Guvin Zeerd, was created after his successful escape. The second song, Dörben Oiradin Dumdaas, was composed when Senge, who ruled over a section of the Dzungar from 1653 to1671, was murdered by his two older half-brothers Tseten and Tsodba Batur. After the incident, Galdan, who was sent to Lhasa to be educated as a lama under the 5th Dalai Lama at Tashilhunpo Monastery, Galdan immediately renounced his status as a lama and quickly returned to the Irtysh Valley to avenge him. This song is about this historical incident.
