Abstract
Torgon, a herder of Wang Banner in Hobogsair, shares a traditional song in this video, reflecting the social etiquette passed down from elders. As she narrates, Mongolian culture historically transmitted knowledge through various means, including songs, epics, stories, riddles, and proverbs. This oral tradition facilitated intergenerational learning among pastoral communities, adapting to the constraints of limited time and resources for written documentation. Torgon reminisces learning Urtiin Duu songs during ceremonial occasions like weddings or from other elders, a practice disrupted during the government’s prohibition of traditional customs from the 1960s to the 1980s. However, with the easing of restrictions in the 1980s, individuals like Torgon have revived these cultural practices.
