Description
A Poor man with worn shoes and worn clothes is condemned to support his whole family on his back. An inscription on a scroll below reads: "t Syn ellendige beenen die armoe moeten drage" (These wretched legs must wear poverty). This painting is related to the theme of "Poverty hinders Ingenium". There is a pendent to that painting, an allegory of wealth which reads this time ("These strong legs can carry wealth").
