Abstract

In this presentation, I consider how in Japan and elsewhere, public authorities and scientific research communities respond to citizen-led, data-driven radiation monitoring practices. Using qualitative methods, I shed light on developing collaboration pathways between citizen scientists and formally-trained scientists working in radiological protection. I introduce the notion of 'citizen-sciencization' and juxtapose it with "mainstreaming" to theorize how these pathways take shape.
